Being a public speaker like a host or moderator can make you feel confident. Believe it or not, when you are at the first time required as the public speaker, you will get addicted to it. You want to try it again and again. This means your confidence is improved. Generally, If you are confidence, you will also have confidence to teach your students. Your students will get impact of it too.
You can learn something different with your comfort zone. If you want to try outside thing except teaching, just get interested to public speaking. Obviously, a teacher is also a public speaker. Teacher is often asked to be MC or moderator at some moments, such as at meeting, at workshop, etc. However, the teacher may be not study it in particular like in a course or college. Everything goes by impromptu.
Last but not least, learning public speaking can make the teacher has a brand. The branding makes the teacher look professional. Let say when you want to buy the mineral water, you usually say 'I want to buy Aqua'. This is kind of weird, right? But it happens. There are so many brands of mineral water, but why do people have to say 'Aqua' every time they want to buy mineral water? The answer is 'Brand'. They have already recognized that the mineral water is qualified. This is in line with the teachers. The teacher who can do public speaking is branded as a public speaker. So, they are known not only as a teacher but also as a public speaker. In other words, they are branded as professionalists.
So, I would recommend for me as a teacher and other teacher to learn public speaking. We as a teacher should learn it since our role as the learner, motivator and facilitator. As a result, we can inspire and empower our students.
